Scope and Contents
Jamaican poet and folklorist Louise Bennett conveys Jamaican history and culture through Calypso folk songs, folk stories, lullabies, and soul songs, which are religious tunes sung in Jamaica. She also talks about the colonization of Jamaica, the towns where the Maroons live in Jamaica, and the song and dance of the Maroons. Performance followed by announcement of a fundraising program to send Anacostian youth to the Caribbean area and additional musical performance by The Colombians (not on this recording).
