General

This garden, situated in the area between the Navesink River and Sandy Hook Bay, was under active development between 1945 and 1965. It featured a swimming pool, terrace, and patio, and may have been designed by Alice Recknagel Ireys. Although not reflected in these photos, there was apparently an extensive azalea collection, many specimens of which were grown from cuttings by owner Jake Lefferts.
Persons associated with the garden include: Jake and Jean Lefferts (former owners, ca. 1945-1965) and Alice Recknagel Ireys (landscape architect).
