General
Designed by Nelva M. Weber, this was the garden at the home of Reuben F. and Lisa Richards. The country property featured a Colonial revival-style house and its spacious grounds accomodated a swimming pool, broad lawns, and mature trees. For outdoor entertaining Weber created a brick terrace adjacent to the home's living room, defining it with a pierced brick wall fronted by flowering shrubs, clematis, and a boxwood border. Another brick wall helped to delineate the lawn area, which was made more interesting by an expanse of ground cover plants. A second grass terrace completed the design.
Additional documentation relating to the garden may be found in the Nelva Weber Papers in the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections of the Cornell University Library.
Persons associated with the garden include: Nelva M. Weber (landscape architect, circa 1962) and Reuben F. and Lisa Richards (former owners, circa 1962-1972).
