General

Little is known about this garden other than the last name of its owner, Height (possibly spelled Heydt or Heidt), and that it was located in Essex Fells, New Jersey. Woods surrounded the lawns and borders of this informally designed site and the informality was emphasized by the use of Adirondack chairs on a stone patio. An iron bench near a stone-bordered fish pond provided a more formal touch, while a statue of St. Francis gave the garden a air of calm, serenity, and spiritual union with nature.
