General
Founded in 1907, the church of St. John on the Mountain undertook a major building project in the 1960s. As part of this endeavor landscape architect Nelva M. Weber created a new design for the church grounds. In doing so she utilized two focal points: a statue of St. Francis of Assisi and an Asian temple bell housed in a pavilion. A long walkway led to the pavilion from the church area. The St. Francis statue was set in a broad lawn outlined by hedges and bordered on one side by the church building and on others by flowering trees and shrubs.
Persons associated with the garden include: Nelva M. Weber (landscape architect, ca. 1968-1975).
