General

This garden is believed to have been at the home of Arthur J. and Katharine Elkus White on Harding Road. It was located near the Tower Hill Church (First Presbyterian), which is seen in the background of one of the images. A prominent Red Bank resident, Katharine Elkus White served as its mayor (1951-1956), chaired the New Jersey Highway Authority (1955-1964), and was U.S. Ambassador to Denmark (1964-1968). The garden was a traditional one with broad lawns and perennial borders. An unusual stone sculpture/bench was a visual highlight, while additional stone benches were found in other parts of the garden.
Persons associated with the garden include: Arthur J. and Katharine Elkus White (former owners, ca. 1960-1985).
