Scope and Contents note

Shahn's art-related financial material includes consignment records, loan agreements, and royalty statements, in addition to receipts for artwork sold, receipts for publication of artwork, and receipts for honoraria and other payments. Much of the series consists of routine transactions not necessarily related to Shahn's work including bank records, miscellaneous receipts, records of medical expenses, and insurance records. Three folders at the end of the series contain legal documents and records relating to a police report of a case in which Shahn had assisted by drawing a sketch of a criminal suspect.
