This Humane Treatment of Animals Issue stamp was issued to promote humane treatment of all animals and to commemorate the centennial of the founding of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The organization promotes animal welfare through education, shelters and enforcement of laws. The stamp features an image of a mixed breed, or mongrel, dog.
