Description

This Silver Centennial Issue stamp commemorates the discovery of silver at the Comstock Lode in the Utah Territory, which is present day Nevada. Comstock Lode sparked a silver rush and was one of the largest and richest silver mining ventures in the United States. Several mining camps, including Virginia City and Gold Hill, were established in its vicinity. The stamp depicts a seen of Henry Comstock, of which the lode is name, along with two other men and a horse, at the mining location on Mount Davidson.
