Description

The Postal Service issued the 39-cent Benjamin Franklin commemorative stamp in four designs on April 7, 2006 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, designed the stamps.

With the issuance of these stamps, the Postal Service recognized the 300th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), an American icon whose diverse accomplishments as a printer, postmaster, scientist, and political leader earned him a cherished place in the history of our nation.

Each stamp features a collage representing one of four aspects of Franklin's life, career, and personal interests.

Avery Dennison printed 40 million stamps in the gravure process.
