Object Details
Description
The 15-cent Summer Olympics commemorative stamps were first placed on sale at Los Angeles, California, on September 28, 1979. The block of four stamps features women runners, women swimmers, a pair of rowers, and a horse and rider clearing a jump.
These stamps, which commemorate the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, were released prior to the US-led boycott of the games due to the Soviet's invasion of Afghanistan. The United States did not participate in the 1980 Summer Olympics.
The stamps were designed by Robert M. Cunningham and were issued in sheets of fifty.
