Anacostia Community Museum Extends Hours Beginning Jan. 7, 2020, With Twilight Tuesdays

News Release

The Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum is extending its hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and introducing a new program series, Twilight Tuesdays, designed to welcome visitors to the museum after hours starting Jan. 7, 2020. The museum reopened in mid-October with a new director, mission, vision and refreshed spaces, both inside and out, after a seven-month closure for renovations. The museum is located at 1901 Fort Pl. S.E.

“The museum’s current hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. are not convenient for everyone to take advantage of the wonderful programs and exhibits offered during the week,” said Melanie Adams, director of the museum. “The evening schedule will ensure that people who live and work near the museum have additional opportunities to enjoy this cultural gem right in their backyard.”

Visitors will be able to view the current exhibition “A Right to the City” or participate in a variety of free programs Tuesday evenings that start at 6:30 p.m. for 30 to 60 minutes. Future programs include sneak peeks into the museum’s collections, community game nights and guided art activities to access to one’s inner creative. January’s Twilight Tuesdays schedule is listed below. Visit anacostia.si.edu for information on this series and other museum public programs.
