Red pandas can be seen along the Asia Trail at the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

The Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat and Asia Trail features seven Asian species--giant pandas, red pandas, sloth bears, clouded leopards, fishing cats, Asian small-clawed otters and Japanese giant salamanders.

    It was love at first sight for Shama and Tate, the red pandas at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and now, nearly 1½ years after they were introduced, the pair has a cub as evidence of their strong bond.

  • National Zoo’s Panda Count: Red Pandas 4, Giant Panda 0

    Two red panda cubs were born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and two additional cubs were born at the Zoo’s facility in Front Royal, Va., bringing the total to four in 2011. Unfortunately, female giant panda Mei Xiang (may-SHONG) is not pregnant but was experiencing a pseudo, or false, pregnancy during the past several months.
