This computer was made in the 1980s by Apple Computer of Cupertino, Calif. Computers transformed how Americans experience daily life. Introduced in 1977, the Apple II series was affordable and commercially successful. It helped usher in the age of personal computing and make the United States the world leader of the computer revolution.

“American Stories” Exhibition Opens at National Museum of American History

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History will open a signature exhibition, “American Stories,” April 12 that takes visitors on a journey through time by telling both well- and little-known stories about the American experience.

Steve Jobs’ Patents Tell the Story of Invention

In recognition of Steve Jobs’ contributions to technology, the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center will display the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s exhibit, “The Patents and Trademarks of Steve Jobs: Art and Technology that Changed the World.” In 1976, Jobs co-founded Apple Computer Inc. in his parents’ garage.
