Ancient Algae Shell - Overview

This complete fossil algae shell contains small pores and one large opening. Researcher Jens Wendler discovered that ancient dinoflagellate shells achieved an optimum balance of strength, flexibility and weight needed to protect the algae while preventing them from sinking rapidly in the ocean.
