Abraham Lincoln Campaign Button, 1860

Abraham Lincoln's presidential campaign was one of the first to use photography as a political tool. This and many other photographic items are part of the photo exhibition to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, “Experience Civil War Photography: From the Home Front to the Battlefront,” on display in the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, D.C. beginning Aug. 1, 2012.
