This exhibition commemorates the 150th anniversary of the expedition conducted by the German naturalist Prince Maximilian and Swiss artist Karl Bodmer, who explored the relatively undisturbed but rapidly changing Western frontier. On view are more than 100 watercolors (including portraits) by Bodmer, as well as other works, documents, specimens and some 60 other objects, primarily ethnographic material. The objects, rediscovered after World War II, were overlooked for more than 100 years in a castle on the Rhine.

This traveling exhibition was organized by the Joslyn Art Museum of Omaha, Nebraska and sponsored by InterNorth Corporation.
