View some 15 images, most of which are advertising tear sheets using the American "valentine." The tear sheets date from the early 20th century and illustrate how the concept of "romantic love" has been used, in the form of hearts, flowers, and cupid, to sell everything from ice cream and candy to flower seeds. Also included are several 19th-century Valentine's Day cards.
