A Tribute to Carl Linnaeus, 1707-1778

Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist Carl Linnaeus (May 23, 1707-Jan. 10, 1778) is known as the father of modern taxonomy; he created a system of naming and classifying species that is still in use today. To mark his 300th birthday, on view in this case are two of his books, System naturae (The system of nature) and Species plantarum (The species of plants); a chart from one of his books; a specimen of his favorite plant, Linnaea borealis, named in his honor; and images of Linnaeus and his wife, Sara Lisa Moraea.
