On view are 81 masterworks of American painting and sculpture, demonstrating the diverse traditions of American visual creativity from Colonial to contemporary times. Included are early portraits by Thomas Sully and Gilbert Stuart; landscapes by 19th-century artists Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Church, and Winslow Homer; impressionist works by Thomas Wilmer Dewing and John Twatchman; and 20th-century works by Stuart Davis, Edward Hopper, Franz Kline, and Helen Frankenthaler.
The exhibition ends a national tour at NMAA.
