Smithsonian Institution Libraries Book Conservation Laboratory: A Tenth Anniversary Exhibition

This exhibition focuses on the restoration and conservation treatments required to preserve and maintain the rare and valuable items in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries' Special Collections. Examined are the conservation methods and techniques used by the laboratory, including stabilization of paper degradation, insect and mold arrest, hand book-binding, the construction of protective cases with acid-free materials, leaf-casting, and ultrasonic encapsulation.
