On view are 61 images selected to reflect the scope, diversity, and quality of NPG's photography collection. Included are portraits of a range of theatrical, artistic, political, literary, and historical figures as taken by photographers such as Clarence Sinclair Bull, Mathew Brady, Julia Margaret Cameron, Edward Curtis, Alexander Gardner, Phillipe Halsam, Arnold Newnam, and Clara Sipprell. Rarities include a recently discovered original 1858 ambrotype of Abraham Lincoln and a gold-toned orotone (a positive image on glass) of Chief Joseph.
