Over 25 documents, photographs, and objects celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Soil Conservation Service. Hugh Hammond Bennett, known as the "father of soil conservation" in the U.S., headed the bureau and recorded his observations, which led to a state-of-the art book on soil conservation practices. Bennett's shovel, used in testing soil samples; field notebook, one of the many volumes he filled; and tools of a soil profile are on view.
