Robert Arneson: A Retrospective
April 30, 1986 – July 6, 1986
On view are some 75 works, including 43 ceramic sculptures and 26 drawings, collages, and mixed-media works by California artist Robert Arneson. This major retrospective draws from his work of the past 25 years. As a leader of the so-called Funk movement, Arneson championed and developed glazed ceramics as a viable sculptor's medium, creating—along with Peter Voulkos and others—strictly non-utilitarian objects from potter's clay. He is known for his extroverted, often irreverent portrayals.
