On view is a painting from the artist's Revelation series, which depicts Long's visionary response to passages from Revelations in the Bible's New Testament. Long combines elements from various chapters to create new interpretations of the traditional text, often employing examples of modern technology to interpret the destruction of humankind. Long (1888-1976), born in Statesville, North Carolina, was a portrait painter, a sergeant in World War I, an ordained Presbyterian minister, and an evangelist.
