This exhibition of some 35 objects that have recently been added to the museum's collection spans centuries of American history and culture. The installation highlights a diverse group of journalists, artists, and leaders who have shaped the face of American society. The works include such individuals as Christopher Columbus in a rare engraving that lays claim to being one of the most authentic images of the explorer in existence; Ida B. Wells, the early American civil rights activist; poet Carl Sandburg; architect Philip Johnson, who was responsible for some of America's most recognizable skyscrapers; advice columnist Ann Landers; Major League Baseball pitcher Pedro Martinez; and Bill and Melinda Gates.
