This exhibition relates philosophically to the Cooper-Hewitt's 10th anniversary and considers the ways artists and designers use the rules of perspective to create an illusion of space in a 2-dimensional work. Drawings and prints, rare books, peep shows, printed fabrics, wallpapers, and ceramics from the museum's collection show how perspective enables artists to suggest not only what is, but also what was and what might be. Stage designs, interior and exterior views of buildings, garden scenes and landscapes from several centuries and cultures are approached in contrasting ways.
