The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute is the Smithsonian's National Zoo's science and conservation division, with a dedicated team leading efforts to save wildlife species from extinction and to train future generations of conservation scientists.

Since its founding in 1974, SCBI has celebrated many milestones, from revolutionary scientific studies to endangered species births and reintroductions to the wild, and staff continue to tackle some of today's most complex conservation challenges.

In recognition of their work, the Zoo presents a gallery of photos and stories from staff spearheading research programs at SCBI headquarters in Front Royal, Virginia, here at the Zoo in Washington, D.C., and in more than 25 countries across the globe.

This exhibit is on display in the Jessie Cohen Photography Gallery in the Zoo's Visitor Center.
