See a selection of international postage stamps and first day covers—all conveying a musical theme—from the collection of Charles Haywood, a former music professor at Queens College, New York City. Professor Haywood organized his stamp collection in the late 1950s after examining his son's collection and noticing some stamps with a music theme. Today, Haywood's collection includes thousands of stamps, as well as artist's engravings, proofs, essays, first day covers, commemorative postmarks and other special items incorporating a music theme. The stamps on view feature composers, musical instruments, folk dances, national anthems, festivals, famous musicians, famous singers, and advertising in the music business.
