In recognition of the 350th anniversary of the first Swedish settlement in North America, this exhibition is part of a program of cultural, social and educational events throughout the U.S. called New Sweden '88. Represented among the 60 painted and sculpted portraits are Dag Hammarskjold, Alva and Gunnar Myrdal, and a 1747 painting called The Chicken Picture, depicting the Count Carl Gustaf Tessin as a rooster, and the court ladies attending Crown Princess Louisa Ulrica as chickens. Also included are a statue of King Karl VIII Knutsson Bonde, a portrait of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustav and his family, Carl von Linne, Jons Jakob Berzelius, Carl Michael Bellman, singer Jenny Lind, dramatist August Strindberg, and others.
