On view are some 180 pieces—including drawings, models, ornament, hardware, books, and photographs—organized by the Chicago Historical Society in conjunction with the St. Louis Art Museum. Chicago architect Louis Henry Sullivan (1856-1924) was one of the most important and influential figures in late-19th and early 20th-century architecture in America. The exhibition provides an opportunity to better understand Sullivan's use of an ornamental vocabulary that allowed him to develop a new style appropriate to any type of building.
