On view in a major exhibition documenting the evolution of lace techniques and patterns from the 16th century to the present are Western European caps, collars, cuffs, borders, shawls, handkerchiefs, hair ornaments, and trimmings—some made for royal use from the Cooper-Hewitt permanent collection. Also included are textiles with pattern designs derived from lace. Engravings, photo enlargements, and diagrams complement the laces.
