On view are 25 pieces of ceramic ware from Kyoto, characterized by witty design, refined workmanship, and colorful enamel decoration. The exhibition presents the work of the major Kyoto ceramic artists as well as representative Kyoto pottery workshops of the Edo period (1615-1868). The former capital of Japan was a great commercial center for luxury goods, and its leadership in two other areas—lacquer and textile design—is reflected in a pair of trompe l'oeil folding screens depicting a rich array of textiles.
