View 5 sculptures (2 that have been especially constructed for HMSG show) and 63 paintings, drawings, and mixed-media works, in a mid- career retrospective. Five themes have occupied the artist since the 1960s—hearts, robes, tools, gates, and trees. Formerly a Pop artist and stager of "happenings," he is now characterized as a turbulent expressionist.
Organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the exhibition traveled to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY, prior to its showing at the HMSG.
