On view are 37 intricately crafted examples of vessels, plates, ewers, weapons, and other objects in brass, silver, bronze, and gold in an exhibition that explores the technical and aesthetic development of metalwork in the Islamic world from the 7th-8th through the 17th centuries. See some of the finest works in the Freer's collection: a brass and silver basin (circa 1240), commissioned by a sultan of Syria; and a 13th-century silver and brass canteen executed for an unknown patron. Both pieces incorporate designs representing the sport of polo and scenes from the life of Jesus.
