On view are 50 oil paintings and numerous pencil studies by the contemporary British artist whose work captures the role of Britain in the air battles of World War II. Taylor's work also reflects other events in British aviation and naval history, including the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and the Falkland Islands conflict in the early 1980s. Taylor researches his work often by interviewing well-known World War II fighter aces to obtain first-person accounts of historic battles.
The artist has created a new work for this exhibiton, Pan Am Clipper, 1940, which depicts an early Boeing 314 flying boat (the California or Pacific Clipper) departing for Hawaii from San Francisco—an important event in the airline industry's early history.
