More than 110 photographs document the art of the "golden era" of Hollywood portrait photographers. Included are portraits of Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, Tyrone Power, Vivian Leigh, Katherine Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, and Rudoph Valentino. Among the photographers represented are Ted Allan, Clarence S. Bull, Ernest Bachrach, George Hurrell, Ruth Harriet Louise, and Lazlo Willinger.

Organized by Mary Corliss, Museum of Modern Art, in conjunction with John Kobal, author of The Art of the Great Hollywood Portrait Photographers.
