German Expressionism, an early 20th-century movement, spawned a significant body of work in three dimensions. This major loan exhibition includes more than 120 works in porcelain, wood, stone, plaster, and bronze, from 1905 to the 1920s. Intense, socially committed, often deliberately primitive in execution and appearance, sculpture flourished alongside the more widely known German Expressionist painting and graphic art. On view are works by Beckmann, Lehmbruck, Barlach, Nolde, Kirchner, Heckel, and Zadkine, among others.
20-minute slide-tape program on view near exhibition.
Organized by the L.A. County Museum of Art.
