The first complete Dzubas retrospective comprises 45 works, including his early "calligraphic" work of 1949; all-black canvases; and bold monumental color abstractions of recent years. These fluid painterly compositions are his best known works, and are often radically large in scale and imbued with a strongly romantic strain.

Dzubas was born in Germany and has lived in the U.S. since 1939. He was involved in New York's progressive art community during the late 1940s, and currently lives and works in Boston.
