Organized by the Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI), this exhibition explores color as a design element in the context of over 300 years of Western fashion. Sixty works from KCI's world-renowned collection of over 11,000 Western-style dresses, dating from the 18th century to the present, are installed in the galleries according to six color schemes (black, blue, red, yellow, multicolor, and white). The cultural, spiritual, and social associations often linked with each color are examined, while the super-saturation of color allows previously unseen details and forms of the clothing to emerge for the viewer.
