This exhibition looks at the instruments that scientists have used to explore the microscopic world and what they have found there.

Development of the optical microscope is traced with photographs and historic microscopes, on loan from the Armed Forces Medical Museum.

Recent development of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) is seen, and some of the 180 SEM photographs show visitors the extraordinary microscopic world.

Television monitors, an operating light microscope, and an operating scanning electron microscope will show visitors magnified objects.

The film Powers of Ten introduces the exhibition.

A scientist or technician was present in the exhibition from 10 A.M. to Noon and 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. daily.

An adaptation of the exhibition was circulated by SITES after leaving NMNH.
