The Excellent Mr. Ray

This exhibition celebrates the 300th anniversary of the publication of John Ray's book, Historia Planetarum, the first scientific work on botany. Exhibited are 10 to 15 original editions of publications that Ray wrote or edited, including a recently acquired work on fishes by 17th-century scientist John Willughby.
The books are culled from the Smithsonian Libraries collection.
