On view are some 200 illustrations of fish from the collections of the NMNH Division of Fishes. The work of 23 artists, the illustrations demonstrate their importance as tools for study as well as their often exquisite beauty. Among the artists represented, Joseph Drayton served on the U.S. Exploring Expedition of 1838-1842 as one of two official artists; Kumataro Ito of Japan worked with the U.S. Fish Commission 1907-1910.
