This group exhibition of contemporary art, the third in the museum's Directions series, suggests certain concerns, or "directions," shared by artists using diverse styles or media.
The four "Directions" and 17 artists are:
- 1: Melodrama: Ida Applebroog, Robert Longo, David Salle, Cindy Sherman, and Alexis Smith
- 2: Expressionisms: Jonathan Borofsky, Mary Jones, Elizabeth Murray, Pierre Picot, and Julian Schnabel.
- 3: From the Model: Siah Armajani, Judith Shea, Scott Burton, and Robert Wilhite.
- 4: Real Space/Illusion: Kendall Buster, Anita Thacher, and Elyn Zimmerman.
