The first major showing of the Cooper-Hewitt theater design collections, this exhibition contains drawings, prints, and books. Included are stage designs (dating from those commissioned in the 16th century by the Medici to those of Oliver Smith for Oklahoma); costumes (from Louis XIV's spectacles at Versailles to Jose Varona's for the Metropolitan Opera), and theater architecture and decoration (from Palladio's Teatro Olimpico to the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia).
