On view is a selection of historic and contemporary silk, linen, and wool fabrics in damask weave, primarily from the Cooper-Hewitt collection. Among the examples on view are a 14th-century silk with an Arabic inscription; linen napkins from the 17th and 18th centuries made for Napoleon I and for Czar Nicholas II of Russia; a 20th-century silk designed for French embassies, and some examples recently identified as having been woven in China for export to Europe.
