Columns as architectural elements and as ornamental forms are the subject of the wide-ranging exhibit, covering many periods and cultures. On view are drawings and prints, rare books, photographs, wallpaper, and textiles, together with 3-D objects including furniture, pedestals, clocks, andirons, candlesticks, boxes, and purely ornamental columns made from semi-precious materials.
