Portraits, photographs, political cartoons, manuscripts, and memorabilia are on view in a small exhibit that pays tribute to the German immigrant who became one of the United States' most influential reform leaders in the post-Civil War period. For example, he succeeded in replacing the "spoils system" of awarding federal jobs with a merit system.
