Decorative and functional uses of the button are considered in an exhibit of more than 1,000 examples, selected largely from the Cooper-Hewitt permanent collection. Included are buttons from around the world made from a variety of materials—wood, bone, ivory, horn, metal, shell, glass, porcelain, rubber, plastic, and composites. Related objects range from button molds to salesmen's sample books.
