On view are more than 60 historic and scientific photographs, revealing previously imperceptible natural occurrences—images too small, too faint, too quick, or too far beyond our normal vision to be seen. Yet when caught by the camera—with the help of specialized techniques—each provided new information about the world in which we live and stimulated research. The photographs span the history of photography and include calotypes, daguerrotypes, and digitally encoded photographs relayed from deep space. Images featured include Roentgen's X-ray photograph of his wife's hand, the first color view of a fetus inside its mother's womb, the picture that marked the discovery of the planet Pluto, and the earliest photograph of shock waves emanating from a bullet in flight.
The collection is on loan from the Science Museum, London.
